By saying that only she and John McCain are qualified to lead the country, particularly in times of crisis, Hillary Clinton has broken that rule, severely damaged the Democratic candidate who may well be the party’s nominee, and, perhaps most ominously, revealed the unlimited lengths to which she will go to achieve power. She has essentially said that the Democratic party deserves to lose unless it nominates her.
Hillary’s scorched-earth campaign isn’t winning her many new fans. It’s demonstrating that the worst thoughts that many of us have about her might be true: she’s an ego-centric monster who cares more about her career than she does the Democratic party or the country.
Mathematically, it seems like it’s next to impossible for her to win the nomination through elected delegates, so her strategy seems to be to try to destroy Obama through lies and innuendo so that super-delegates turn to her in a fit of desperation. Failing that, she’ll make sure that Obama loses to McCain so she can run against him in 2012.
