Thank You, President Bush!

Republicans are funny!

010809_thankyou-1

From the inbox:

For the last eight years, President Bush has led our country with firm determination and a steady hand in the face of numerous challenges and crises. He restored honor and integrity to the White House and protected America from another terrorist attack.

As President and Mrs. Bush prepare to leave Washington in a few weeks to return to Texas, I know I speak for Republicans and grassroots leaders across America when I say we are all grateful for their tremendous service to our country. To show our appreciation for our Commander-in-Chief, the RNC is asking every Republican to sign an electronic card that will be presented to President Bush before he leaves office. It is the least each of us can do to show our gratitude to the leader of our country and our Party.

And if you can, Robert, I hope you will also consider giving a gift to keep our Party strong and moving forward. Your secure online contribution of $1,000, $500, $100, $50 or $25 will go a long way toward helping the RNC provide the support our Republican leaders need to fight the Democrats’ liberal agenda and prepare for the vital 2009-2010 elections.

I hope you will add your name to the RNC’s Thank You card to President Bush and Laura Bush today. And thank you for your continued support of our Party and our cause.

Best Wishes,

Robert M. “Mike” Duncan
Chairman, Republican National Committee

P.S. Robert, in order for your name to be included on the RNC’s Thank you e-card to President and Mrs. Bush, you must reply to this e-mail by January 15th. Please click here to sign the President’s Thank You card and to make a secure online gift to help strengthen our Party for the battles ahead. Thank you.

Umm, I don’t know where to start. Apparently, in the minds of Republicans, “restoring honor and integrity to the White House” means being a corrupt bastard who is admirable because he allegedly stopped drinking at 40 and who can’t admit that he has ever been wrong about anything.

As far as we know, there have been no blow jobs in Bush’s Oval Office under Bush, but the collapse of confidence in our government nationally and internationally seem to mean that they have restored honor and dignity to the White House. And waging pre-emptive wars and enacting policies that have cause our economy to collapse have also helped in that arena? Ugh!

And he prevented another terrorist attack on the country? Well, that’s nice, considering that 9/11 happened 8 months into Bush’s first term after there were clear warnings that Al Quada planned to attack us. I guess not being attacked again is some sort of prize. But these GOP clowns seem to be OK with 5,000 American deaths in an unnecessary war.

Please join me in signing the GOP’s Thank You card to George W. and Laura Bush.

Bush Is Jeffy

With 12 days left of the Bush regime, I’m almost giddy at the possiblities of an Obama administration, even though we are on the verge of economic collapse. I like to think about seeing President Obama giving a speech in the window of a hardware store while I stand in line to get my grub from a soup kitchen.

This piece may be the first time that I have legitimately laughed at a Family Circus cartoon.

Jeffy seems to understand Bush’s war on terriers.

12 days!

It’s really way too easy.

Sarah Palin: Pallin’ Around with Druggies?

Part of the problem with using guilt by association is that your associations are examined much more closely than they would be otherwise.

Sarah didn’t like that Barack had served on a board with William Ayers. Fine.

But I don’t like it that Sarah spent some time with Sherry, the mother of Bristol’s baby daddy.

From the Times:

State troopers have arrested the mother of Bristol Palin’s boyfriend on drug charges. The woman, Sherry L. Johnston, was arrested after troopers served a search warrant on a Wasilla home. Ms. Johnston, 42, has been charged with six felony drug counts. A trooper spokeswoman said in a news release that the charges were in connection to the prescription painkiller OxyContin. Ms. Johnston is the mother of Levi Johnston, 18. Gov. Sarah Palin, the Republican nominee for vice president, announced in September that her daughter Bristol, 18, was pregnant and that Mr. Johnston was the father. She is due to give birth this weekend.

Why does Governor Palin associate with druggies, and what connection does she have with the Medellin cartel?

See how Sarah’s logic can work against her?

The Bush Years: A Look Back

From Tom Tomorrow:

story

I wonder what percentage of Bush voters would get the joke?

Who ARE These People??

Thank you Sarah Palin!

Ugh!

A political action committee is thanking Gov. Sarah Palin for her conservative values and service to America in ads timed for release around Thanksgiving.

Our Country Deserves Better Committee, a PAC that supported Palin during her vice presidential candidacy, will begin airing the ads on Tuesday.

In one, comforting music plays as images of Palin are flashed on a screen and a male voice says, “Gov. Sarah Palin, a grateful nation wishes to thank you for serving the people of America with a servant’s heart.”

The more cynical among us might prefer to thank Sarah Palin for giving us endless hours of comedy and for handing the election to Barack Obama.

Vindication

799px-howard_dean_declaration_of_candidacy_june_20031

Throughout this campaign, Barack Obama has reminded me a lot of Howard Dean in his run in 2004.

I’m too tired to get into the details of the similarities between the two and their campaigns; those are obvious: opposition to the Iraq war, voter empowerment, amazing online fundraising abilities, battling against the Democratic party establishment candidates, etc.

In the end, Obama proved to be a far better candidate than Dean ever was and Americans were more willing to accept a change in course in 2008 than they were in 2004. But we Democrats are fortunate that Dean became the DNC Chair as his 50 state strategy for the DNC was embraced by the Obama campaign, and that led to Obama victories in states like Indiana, Virginia, and North Carolina.

So, I have a few quotes from Howard Dean to remind us of his vision for the country that led to Obama’s victory.

“At every turn when there has been an imbalance of power, the truth questioned, or our beliefs and values distorted, the change required to restore our nation has always come from the bottom up from our people.”

“Hypocrisy is a value that I think has been embraced by the Republican Party. We get lectured by people all day long about moral values by people who have their own moral shortcomings.”

I think most people… would be glad to pay the same taxes they paid when Bill Clinton was president, if only they could have the same economy they had when Bill Clinton was president.”

People have said I’m the candidate of anger. Well, we have a right to be angry. We lost 3 million jobs. We lost our place as the moral leader of the world.”

“The way we’re going to win elections in this country is not to become Republican lite. The way we’re going to win elections in this country is to stand up for what we believe in.

“This country was the moral leader of the world until George Bush became president.”

“We need to go everywhere. There is not one county in this state, I don’t care how far west you go, that doesn’t have Democrats. We have to be proud of who we are.”

“Dealing with race is about educating white folks…”

Thank you, Howard.
